Mongolian agriculture and river, satellite image. North is at top. Water is black and vegetation is green. Cultivated fields (lower left) are seen as rectangles. The Khalkh River flows past the fields from lower right towards upper left. It rises in the Khyangan Mountains (not seen) and empties into the Orshun River and Lake Buir (neither seen). It drains an area of 7440 square kilometres. The path of the river is seen meandering through wetlands. It is located in the easternmost tip of Mongolia. This 40-kilometre-wide, visible and infrared image was taken by the Thematic Mapper (TM) sensor on a NASA Landsat satellite.
