Developing ovules (female gametes) are visible within the hollow chamber of the ovary; they are oval in shape, each inside a protective and nutritive embryo sac. The ovules are attached in groups to placental tissue on the outer wall of the ovary; this attachment is known as parietal placentation. After fertilisation the ovules form the seeds of the violet flower. Magnification: x25 at 35mm size.
