Developing plant seeds. Interference contrast light micrograph of a transverse section through the ovary of a vascular plant. Developing ovules (female gametes) are visible (circular structures, centre) within the hollow chamber of the ovary. The ovules are attached in groups to placental tissue on the outer wall of the ovary; this attachment is known as parietal placentation. After fertilisation the ovules form the seeds of the flower.
