Small icebergs in the sea around Iceland. The ice has spilled off from glaciers advancing from the Vatnajokull icecap. Some of the ice has a grey or black discolouration due to the presence of englacial material, debris carried within the ice which is formed through the erosion of substrate during the glacier's passage. The Vatnajokull icecap is a dome-shaped mass of ice covering the highland region in the south-east of the island. With an area of 8800 square kilometres it is Europe's largest icecap.
