Rutile and haematite in a quartz crystal. Rutile (orange, needle-shaped crystals) is a mineral largely composed of titanium dioxide. Haematite (grey crystals) is formed of iron (III) oxide, one of the most common iron ores. These two minerals are sealed in a matrix of clear quartz (silicon dioxide) crystal that measures 32 millimetres across.
