Mdme Andre is the founder of the Lola ya Bonobo (Bonobo Paradise) Sanctuary in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). The sanctuary was founded in 1994 to help protect the bonobo, which is endemic to the Congo. This species is considered to be the most endangered of the great apes. It is threatened by loss of habitat, the bush meat trade and trade in live primates.
