Davidson Black. Canadian palaeontologist Professor Davidson Black, who first described Peking Man. Behind the portrait of Black is his 1927 paper which names Peking Man as a new genus Sinanthropus pekinensis. At the time, Black was Professor of Anatomy at the Peking Union Medical College in China. In 1926 Otto Zdansky dug up two teeth of Peking Man from the Chou K'ou Tien deposit and this aroused much scientific interest. When Birger Bohlin discovered a child's tooth in 1927 in the same deposit, Black found a link between this and Zdansky's fossil and published his description of a new hominid genus. This genus was later encorporated into the genus Homo erectus.
