Colonel Edward Howland Robinson Green (1868-1936), radio enthusiast. Green, popularly known as Colonel Green, was the son of the insWitch of Wall Streetins (Hetty Green) and heir to her $150 million dollar fortune. Colonel Green built his home on Round Hill in Dartmouth, Massachusetts. In 1923, as continuous wave-broadcasting became available, Colonel Green founded the radio station WMAF. MIT's president Samuel W. Stratton and the Department of Electrical Engineering's new Communications Division was invited to experiment with the new technology. In 1948 his sister donated the entire property to MIT, which used the 240-acre estate for educational and military purposes.
