Charles Robert Richet (1850-1935), French physiologist and Nobel laureate. During his career, Richet made major advances in the understanding of many physiological phenomena, including thermal regulation, and the effectiveness of vaccination with the blood of a vaccinated animal (serotherapy). His work on anaphylaxis (the reaction by a sensitised individual to a second, small dose of antigen) won him the Nobel Prize for Physiology or Medicine in 1913. This research contributed to our understanding of allergic reactions, hay fever and asthma.
