Reverend Joseph Bancroft Reade (1801-1870), British photographer. Reade prepared the way for new photographic techniques, discovering that paper soaked in gallic acid, in addition to the normal silver nitrate solution, had an improved light sensitivity. However, the credit for applying this process to the development of photographs goes to William Fox Talbot, as confirmed by Reade's testimony in the Talbot vs Larouche trial, where Reade supported Talbot's patent for the calotype photographic process. Reade was elected as a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1838.
