Beet mild yellowing virus. Coloured transmission electron micrograph (TEM) of virus particles (virions) of the beet mild yellowing virus (BMYV). This plant virus is a luteovirus, and has an RNA (ribonucleic acid) genome. It was first identified in 1958 in the beet plant (Beta vulgaris), a plant cultivated as a food crop. This virus also infects mustard, stitchwort, deadnettle and ragwort plants. Symptoms are yellowing and curling of the leaves. The virus is transmitted by several species of aphids. Magnification: x125,000 when printed 10cm high.
