Pea enation mosaic virus. Coloured transmission electron micrograph (TEM) of virus particles (virions) of the pea enation mosaic virus (PEMV). This plant virus is an enamovirus, and has an RNA (ribonucleic acid) genome. It was first identified in 1935 in the broad bean plant (Vicia faba), a plant cultivated as a food crop. This virus also infects several other plants, including alfalfa, pea and clover plants. Symptoms are enations (growths) and stunted growth. The virus is transmitted by several species of aphids. It is found in Canada, China, Iran, the UK, and the USA. Magnification: x125,000 when printed 10cm high.
