MODEL RELEASED. Cervical ribs. X-ray of the neck of a 13 year old girl, showing the congenital (from birth) abnormality of extra ribs, seen more prominently on the girl's left side. The extra ribs are located above the (normally) first ribs, from the seventh (bottom) cervical, or neck, vertebra. The presence of an extra rib is found in about 1 in 200 people. It is only in very rare cases that an individual has two cervical ribs (as is seen here). For a photograph of the patient see M350/370.
