Cigar galaxy (M82). Combined optical, infrared and X-ray image of the Cigar galaxy (M82). This image was obtained by combining data from three of NASA's Great Observatories, found in Earth orbit. Optical data (orange/green, central galactic plane) is from the Hubble Space Telescope (HST). Infrared data (red, dust clouds) is from the Spitzer Space Telescope (SST). X-ray data (blue, hot gas) is from the Chandra X-ray Observatory (CXO). M82 is 12 million light years from Earth, in the constellation of Ursa Major.
