MODEL RELEASED. Robot snake. Professor Shigeo Hirose with his snake-like robot. Although it has wheels, this active cord mechanism was inspired by the movements of snakes. It was built in 1972. Hirose works in the Department of Mechano- Aerospace Engineering at the Tokyo Institute of Technology in Japan. Photographed in 1999.
