Mobile phone masts. The large tree at centre is actually a mobile phone mast in disguise. In contrast, two typical base station masts can be seen behind it. Masts can also be disguised as flagpoles to make them inconspicuous to locals. The masts are typically 15 metres high with antennas that have a range of a few hundred metres in urban areas. The antennas are required to relay signals to and from mobile phones. Hundreds of masts and smaller antennas are required to ensure uninterrupted coverage across a network.
