Dragonfly microdrone research. Researchers discussing the design of the libuelle (dragonfly) microdrone. The design is seen on the screen (lower centre). The 'dragonfly' microdrone weighs only 120 milligrams, is 6 centimetres wide, and has wafer-thin silicon wings that flap when powered by electricity. Microdrones, also known as MAVs (micro air vehicles), are being designed for a wide range of surveillance purposes. The 'dragonfly' microdrone is being developed by the French company SilMach. A prototype was exhibited in 2005.
