Virtual reality archaeology. Spectators using goggles to view a virtual reality recreation of a Roman building in Pompeii. This is the House of the Centenary, one of the largest discovered in Pompeii, consisting of several houses merged into one. It was discovered in 1879, eighteen centuries after the eruption of Vesuvius had destroyed Pompeii in 79 AD. Virtual reality (VR) is where a person interacts with a computer-generated reality, usually for training, leisure or educational purposes. This work is being carried out by CINECA, the inter-University consortium of Bologna, Italy.
