Crystal glassware manufacturing. Worker handling a refractory mould at a glassware factory. These circular moulds, in several different sizes, are made from a material such as ceramic or stone that is resistant to high temperatures. This allows them to be used to mould molten glass in a kiln. The holes seen on the edges of the moulds are used to drain and fill them as needed. They can either be broken open, or hinged for ease of reuse. This is the Baccarat glassware factory in Baccarat, France. The Baccarat company is a famous manufacturer of fine crystal glassware. The glassware industry in the town was founded in the 18th century, and the production of fine crystal glassware began in 1816.
