Crystal glassware manufacturing. Worker using a circular saw on a crystal glass statue that is being produced using the pate de verre method. This involves applying a glass paste to a mould before firing it in a kiln. This method allows greater control over the colour of the glass. This is the Daum glassware factory in Nancy, France, founded in 1875 by Jean Daum. It is now (2008) the only commercial crystal glass manufacturer using the pate de verre method. Crystal glass is glass that includes relatively high levels of lead oxide, which increases the sparkle of the glass. The water helps to lubricate and cool the circular saw.
