Nationwide US radio broadcast, 1929. American Telephone and Telegraph Company radio engineers testing the installation for broadcasting the ceremonies for the inauguration of President Hoover in Washington DC, USA. Photographed on 27 February 1929, a few days before the inauguration on 4 March. This was only the second nationwide radio broadcast of a presidential inauguration. Radio was developed in the 1890s, but the American Telephone and Telegraph Company was founded earlier, in 1885, as an offshoot from the Bell Telephone Company, and later became known as AT&T. The engineers are T. D. Dutton and J. J. Boone.
