Earthquake, Guadeloupe. Historical artwork of people fleeing Pointe-a-Pitre, Guadeloupe. On the 2nd February 1843 a large earthquake struck the town (right). The earthquake and the fire that resulted afterwards killed 5000 people. Volcanoes are also seen erupting in the background. Pointe- a-Pitre is the main town of Guadeloupe, an overseas department of France in the Caribbean. Artwork from 1845.
