Honey bee (Apis sp.) pollinating a sunflower (Helianthus annuus 'Solar Eclipse'). As the bee feeds on nectar in the flower, pollen from the anthers (yellow) becomes attached to it. Pollen grains are the male sex cells of a flowering plant. When the bee flies to a new flower of the same species to feed, some pollen is deposited on the female parts of the flower, fertilising them. Most flowering plants use flowers to attract insect pollinators.
