Male barrow's goldeneye duck (Bucephala islandica) throwing his head back in a courting display. This bird breeds in North America, eastern Canada and Iceland. It is migratory, preferring coastal regions in winter. It is rarely found in western Europe. It is a diving duck that feeds on aquatic insects, crustaceans and aquatic vegetation. Photographed in Sussex, UK, in January.
