Orangutan hanging upside down. The orangutan (Pongo pygmaeus) is the only species of great ape found outside of Africa. Two subspecies exist, the Bornean orangutan and the Sumatran orangutan. It is an extremely endangered species, owing mainly to the destruction of its rainforest habitat. Photographed at the Sepilok Orangutan Sanctuary, Sabah, Malaysian Borneo.
