Badger (Meles meles). Badgers are mammals belonging to the family Mustelidae. This species, the Eurasian or European badger, is indigenous to Europe and much of Asia, including China, Tibet, Russia and Japan. They are nocturnal and hibernate over the winter. They measure about 90 cm in length, and feed on earthworms, insects, frogs, eggs, roots, nuts and fruit. They live in setts; these underground tunnel networks are usually located in pasture or woodland. Photographed in the Scottish Highlands, UK.
