Scottish wild cat (Felis silvestris grampia) in a tree. This cat inhabits forest, mountains and moorland in Scotland. It feeds mainly on small mammals and birds although they are known to take deer fawns. The Scottish wild cat was persecuted for many years. Populations are increasing with an estimated 3500 breeding age females. However, population numbers are difficult to ascertain due to interbreeding with domestic cats.
