A Nyangatom woman carries a gourd on her head. Typical of her tribe, she wears her hair in braids with the front of her forehead shaved and many layers of beads around her neck. Some of the bead are plastic and obtained by trading in the local markets, others are natural seeds. The Nyangatom or Bume are a Nilotic tribe of semi-nomadic pastoralists who live along the banks of the Omo River in south-western Ethiopia.
