A Giant Comet Moth (Argema mittrei) in the Ranomafana National Park. This moth is the largest member of the Lepidoptera family in Madagascar with a wingspan of 25cm and a tail up to 10cm long. Ranomafana means 'hot water' in the Malagasy language. In French colonial days, visitors to Ranomafana came for the waters and not to see lemurs in the rainforest! Ranomafana came to world attention in 1986 when the golden bamboo lemur was discovered. The park was created in 1991.
