South Africa, Western Cape, Cape Town. The Elands Bay Cave rock paintings cannot be dated directly but they are in a similar style to others that have been dated to between 200 and 6000 years ago elsewhere in the Western and Southern Cape. The gallery of rock is of particular interest because it includes several hundred handprints, large eland with bodies painted in red but from which the head, neck and legs have disappeared because they were done in white paint, other smaller antelope and a few elongated human figures.
