An alkaline crater lake in the Queen Elizabeth National Park. An extraordinary violent outburst of volcanic activity occurred over a relatively short period about 7,000 years ago, causing the destruction of most of the fauna around Lakes Edward & George, and leaving the countryside pockmarked with craters. The debris from the largest explosions can be seen strewn around some of the crater rims to this day.
