Dong Khoi Street runs for 1 kilometre from Le Duan to the Saigon River. The French named this street Rue Catinat and it has retained its rich colonial atmosphere in the buildings and Tamarind-shaded thoroughfare. When the French departed in 1954, the name was changed to Tu Do (Freedom). The fall of Saigon saw it change again to Dong Khoi (Uprising).
