Sea shore lichens, Xanthoria parietina. Usually bright yellow-orange, sometimes greenish-grey in shady places, it colonizes exposed bare areas especially near the sea or where nitrogen-enriched by bird or animal droppings. Spore-producing bodies are present as darker orange discs. This species is common everywhere in Great Britain except mountain regions. Frequently it grows epiphytically (supported by a plant or object above the ground surface). Photographed on a wall at Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria.
