Historical model of a yellowtail flounder. Coloured plaster moulding showing the upper (dorsal, top) and lower (ventral, bottom) sides of a yellowtail flounder (Limanda vulgaris, now Limanda ferruginea). The upper side is actually the right side of the fish, as they swim on their sides, with their right eye rotated round so both eyes are on the same side. This model was made by Andre Richir in about 1950 as a veterinary teaching aid. Photographed in the museum of the National Veterinary School of Alfort, Maisons-Alfort, France.
