Starburst galaxy NGC 1569. Hubble Space Telescope (HST) image of NGC 1569, a starburst galaxy that is producing new stars at a rate 100 times faster than in our Milky Way galaxy. It is thought this is due to its interactions with nearby galaxies. NGC 1569 is located in the constellation of Camelopardalis and is around 11 million light years from Earth. The area seen here is around 8700 light years across. This is a composite of images obtained in 1999, 2006 and 2007, using HST's Wide Field Planetary Camera 2 (WFPC2) and Advanced Camera for Surveys (ACS).
