UK Houses of Parliament in the 1890s, seen from across the River Thames in London, England. Also known as the Palace of Westminster, the buildings and towers seen here were constructed over 30 years from 1840. They were built in the Perpendicular Gothic style to designs by the architects Charles Barry and Augustus Pugin. In the foreground are river barges and a steam-powered boat. This is a photochrom print, a photographic negative print coloured using lithographic techniques. This is one of the thousands of photochrom postcards produced by the Detroit Publishing Company, in Detroit, USA, in the 1890s.
