Ring-tailed iguana, 19th century artwork. Identified in the text accompanying publication in 1896 as Cyclura carinata, this is one of several ring-tailed iguana (Cyclura rock iguana) species found in the West Indies. Many of them are critically endangered or have gone extinct, and some species identifications have since changed. Artwork published in The Royal Natural History, volume 5 (1896), edited by the English naturalist Richard Lydekker (1849-1915).
