Ring-tailed iguana, 19th century artwork. Identified in the text accompanying publication in 1896 as Cyclura carinata, this is one of several ring-tailed iguana (Cyclura rock iguana) species found in the West Indies. Many of them are critically endangered or have gone extinct, and some species identifications have since changed.
