Wood mouse (Apodemus sylvaticus), artwork. This small mammal is a rodent found in much of Europe. It reaches a body length of around 9 centimetres. It is sometimes found in woodland areas, but more usually inhabits hedgerows, also being called the field mouse. It is mostly herbivorous, eating seeds, but will eat invertebrates, berries, fruit and roots if seeds are not available.
