Optics experiment, historical artwork. A beam of light (left) is passing through a set of two rotatable lenses (centre left) that disperse the beam. A third lens focuses the beam. The apparatus allows the first two lenses to be adjusted upwards and downwards. Set-ups such as this are used in the study of polarised light, interference phenomena, and holograms.
