Fallopian tube. Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of the epithelial lining of a Fallopian tube (oviduct). The tube is lined with a moist mucous membrane. This contains cells that secrete mucus (blue, upper right), which protects the surface of the tube. The Fallopian tubes are the muscular tubes through which ova (eggs, the female reproductive sex cells) pass from the ovaries to the uterus following ovulation. The wave-like motion of the numerous cilia (blue) moves the eggs along the tube. Magnification: x2000 at 6x7cm size.
