Anorthite in andesite. Sample of andesite (grey) with large twinned crystals (phenocrysts) of anorthite (white) trapped within it. Andesite is an extrusive igneous (volcanic) rock. Anorthite is a type of feldspar, which are a very common group of silicate minerals that make up as much as 60% of the Earth's crust. They commonly occur as veins of crystals within extrusive igneous rocks such as andesite.
