Natrolite crystals. Slender, radiating crystal needles (white) of the mineral natrolite in their host rock. This mineral, a tectosilicate (Na2Al2Si3O10), belongs to the zeolite group of minerals. Like most zeolites, natrolite occurs in cavities or open cracks in basaltic igneous rocks. This sample is 10.5 centimetres across.
