Pyrophyllite crystals. Pyrophyllite is an uncommon phyllosilicate mineral composed of aluminium silicate hydroxide. It occurs in two more or less distinct varieties, as crystalline folia and as compact masses. The folia have a pearly lustre, and are usually arranged in radial fan-like or spherical groups (seen here). This sample is 9.5 cm wide.
