1882 Chromolithograph from \The Comprehensive Atlas and Geography of the World\" published by Blackie and Son, London, Glasgow and Edinburgh. This plate clearly derives its inspiration from the uncoloured frontispiece plates in volumes I and II of the \"Voyages of the Adventure and Beagle\" by Fitzroy and King (1839). The third volume being that by Darwin. All the authors on the Beagle describe the profound effect meeting the Patagonians (all figures left of dog) and particularly Fuegians (right) had on them. Darwin in old age reported that \"the astonishment which I felt on first seeing a party of Feugians on a wild and broken shore will never be forgotten by me, for the reflection at once rushed to my mind - such were our ancestors\"."
