Technical illustrations of 19th century items of electro-magnetic equipment. There are 16 early electrostatic devices for generation, storage and demonstration and 1 early electromagnetic device which demonstrates the dc motor effect. Included are an electrophorus, a Nairne type electrostatic generator, a Holz disc-type electrostatic generator, a pith ball electroscope attached to a metal vessel (Faraday's icebucket), variable insconnector tongs, a Henley quadrant electroscope, an electrophorus attached to a pith ball electroscope, a rotatable assemblage of spherical brass conductors on insulated columns, an electrophoros above two paper figures which 'dance' in the electric field, Leyden battery, Coulomb Torsion Balance, a device showing the principle of the lightning conductor, and a Barlow's wheel which illustrates the basis of the electro-magnetic motor.
