The Roman aquaduct of The Miracles (Los Milagros), Merida Spain. Thought to have been constructed in the 1st century AD, the aquaduct brought water from the Proserpina reservoir to the city 5 kilometers away. However, the aquaduct was more than 10 kilometres long to take advantage of the best trajectory.The conduit ran underground to a settlement tank where the sediment was removed. It was then carried by means of an aqueduct bridge over the valley of the river Albarregas and into the city of Emerita August (modern Merida)where it was distributed to different parts of the urban area.This aquaduct bridge was 830 meters long and consists of 38 arched pillars with a maximum height of 25 meters. The complete system is a major feat of Roman hydraulic engineering. This is one of three aquaducts bringing water to the city.
