Naevi are a form of benign tumour composed almost entirely of enlarged blood vessels, which are congenital (present before birth). A moderately sized naevus is harmless but larger naevi (shown here) can be removed by surgery, burning with an electric needle, freezing with carbon dioxide or by laser treatment.
