Reading Gaol, Berkshire, England. Exterior view of newly built County Gaol opened in 1844. On same plan as the model prison at Pentonville, it was arranged in four wings joined by central Inspection Hall. Approximatedly 520 cells, each with hammock, stool, table, gas light, wash basin and WC. Cells arranged in three tiers opening onto balconies overlooking central hall.
