Baja worm lizard of the family Bipedidae crawling through a root mass. Bipes biporus. This unusual burrowing lizard, an amphisbaenian, is endemic to the Sonoran Desert of southern Baja California. While most amphisbaenians are legless, members of the genus Bipes have two mole-like front legs (and hands with five clawed fingers) for burrowing in soil. Baja California, Mexico.
