The scene inside Lieutenant Greely's tent when the relief party arrived on 22 June 1884. In 1881 Adolphus Washington Greely (1844-1935), American Arctic explorer, led the American expedition of 25 men to set up a meteorological station at Smith Sound as part of the first International Polar Year.
